Westend Weimaraners was established in 1987.  Debra purchased her first Weimaraner, Baron, with little knowledge and a lot of luck.  Debra's goal, at the time, was to get an all around hunting dog.  A dog to hunt Ducks, Geese, Pheasants, Quail and Chucker.  Living in Hermiston, Oregon, all was abundant right out of her front door.  Baron did well at this and more.  What wasn’t expected, this dog was more loyal and became more of her friend than any other breed of dog she ever had.  Baron wanted to please, protect, and be part of the family.  With this, Debra started studying and asking questions about the breed.  It wasn't {"I like that dog because he's cute"}.  It was a true interest in the Weimaraner breed. Are all Weimaraners like this?  They should be!  The current standard clearly states that the correct temperament should be friendly, fearless, alert, and obedient.  The Germans also cultivated the Weimaraners protective instinct, which is more highly developed than in other pointing breeds.  This is protective, not vicious.  Last but not least when confidence is gained with your Weimaraner, a sympathetic bond between dog and master is reached which is beyond price.  You have to own one to know this bond.  I would like to say Baron was the foundation of Westend Weimaraners, but he was not.  He was the first Westend Weimaraner and the start of the love of the breed.

PUPPIES

Our puppies are very well socialized. Litters are whelped in our home, raised with adults and children. All will of had their first vaccinations as recommended by the WCA dew claws removed, and wormed.

Each of our Weimaraner puppies come with their own book. There are records in these books of all their testing, and how they have been graded. Records of vaccinations and guide lines, on the proper way to vaccinate Weimaraner. These books also have records of the sire and dam along with a lot of helpful information. We sell only to approved homes.  

We take pride in our field dogs. With sound and solid pedigrees, we feel will produce excellent Field Trial and or Hunting dogs. Our dogs have intelligence, integrity, natural ability, and are very biddable.

Sage has a great nose too.  Most times she smells the birds from so far away, I have to release her and tell her to "find the bird".  She then moves in closer and points again.  And, if I tell her to "find the bird" and she knows she is already too close but I missed kicking the bird up....she stays locked on point, and constantly looks at me, and shifts back to looking where the bird is, then looks at me, then back to where the bird is....it is so funny to watch.  Almost like she is telling me, "Look dummy, the bird is right over there!"   Again, very smart dog.  The fact that she knows when she is already too close and if she gets any closer, she might 'bump' the bird.
 
I've had times where quail won't flush, and they keep running back and forth right in front of her nose, and she will not break point.  One time, this quail ran right underneath of her 4 times before I could get it to flush...she never broke point...just stood there and watched it...never moving her head, just her eyes. 
 
This is my first bird dog.  I have never trained a dog before...so for me, this is so amazing.  She definitely made my job easy.
